The Solis features fully symmetrical discrete circuitry throughout the signal path and offers both balanced and unbalanced inputs for flexible system integration. Delivering an impressive 168W into 8Ω and 305W into 4Ω, it provides powerful, controlled performance with built-in short-circuit protection, thermal cut-out, and DC protection for long-term reliability. A user-selectable standby mode and 12V trigger make it easy to integrate into automated setups, while an independent mute function adds further convenience. Designed to partner seamlessly with the Mercury pre-amplifier and the Aethos stereo amplifier, it forms the foundation of a refined and highly capable audio system.

The Solis features two custom-designed, low-noise 330VA toroidal transformers made with high-grade bonded core material, which reduces mechanical noise even under challenging mains conditions. Combined with 40,000µF of Rega K-Power smoothing capacitors per channel, these transformers deliver ample current to handle demanding speaker loads, effectively doubling power into 4Ω compared to 8Ω. Fast recovery rectifier diodes are used throughout the power supplies, reducing high-frequency switching noise for cleaner DC. The input and low-level driver stages receive power from a regulated symmetrical tracking supply with a low-noise voltage reference, ensuring stable, ultra-clean voltage for the highest sonic purity. All dedicated audio power supplies are reserved solely for the audio circuits.

A question of balance

For most home Hi-Fi systems, unbalanced connections deliver the best sound quality, and this is what the Mercury and Solis are designed around. While balanced circuits are standard in professional studios—helping cancel noise over long cable runs—they don’t inherently improve the listening experience for domestic systems.

Rega’s approach focuses on pure performance: the core circuitry is unbalanced, keeping the signal path clean and free from unnecessary complexity. Balanced XLR connections are included for those who need them, such as studio applications, or simply prefer the professional feel of premium connectors.
