Type 2 uses Solid Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors in a Low-Inductance, Self-Shielding Star-Quad geometry. In a conventional stranded cable, electrical and magnetic interaction between strands is the single greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat harsh, dirty, and confused sound. Type 2’s Solid LGC conductors have fewer impurities and fewer grain junctions, allowing a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper, while its Star-Quad Geometry preserves time information and dynamics. Furthermore, any single size or shape of conductor has a specific distortion profile. Type 2 employs Spread-Spectrum Technology (SST) to significantly reduce the prevalence of these character flaws by using a precise combination of differently sized conductors. Finally, like all AudioQuest speaker cables, Type 2 is controlled for correct directionality, resulting in lower distortion.

Star-Quad Geometry

High-Inductance geometry smears sound and reduces information. Star-Quad low-inductance geometry preserves time information, preserving dynamics and clarity

Solid Long-Grain Copper (LGC) Conductors

Solid Long-Grain Copper (LGC) allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of distortion. The surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered as a rail-guide for both the electric fields within a conductor, and for the magnetic fields outside the conductor. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance.
