Denon DP-500BT Bluetooth Turntable

Quick overview

The Denon DP-500BT is a premium semi-automatic Hi-Fi turntable designed for listeners who want the character of vinyl with the flexibility of a modern audio system. It combines belt-drive playback, a static-balanced tonearm, built-in switchable phono preamp, included MM cartridge and Bluetooth output in a clean two-tone design.

Use it as a traditional wired turntable into a stereo amplifier, connect it directly to powered speakers using the built-in phono equalizer, or send your records wirelessly to compatible Bluetooth speakers or headphones. It is a practical choice for customers who want a proper vinyl source without making the system unnecessarily complicated.

Official Denon key features

  • Belt-drive system — designed for stable record rotation and reduced motor noise transfer.
  • Semi-automatic operation — auto tonearm lift and stop at the end of the record helps protect the stylus and records.
  • Precision-engineered construction — a solid turntable platform designed to support stable playback.
  • Built-in switchable phono preamp — connect to either phono inputs or standard line-level inputs.
  • Elegant two-tone design — styled to suit modern living rooms and Hi-Fi furniture.
  • Bluetooth convenience — stream records wirelessly to compatible Bluetooth speakers or headphones.

Feature details

Belt-drive playback

The DP-500BT uses a belt-drive system with a DC servo motor. Belt-drive turntables are commonly chosen for home Hi-Fi because the belt helps separate the platter from direct motor vibration, supporting smoother and quieter record playback.

Semi-automatic operation

The DP-500BT keeps the hands-on feel of playing records, while adding useful protection at the end of playback. With auto tonearm lift and stop, the turntable can raise the tonearm and stop the platter when the record side has finished, helping reduce unnecessary stylus and record wear.

Static-balanced tonearm and MM cartridge

The DP-500BT uses a static-balanced tonearm and includes a pre-installed MM cartridge / headshell assembly. This makes setup easier while still giving the turntable a proper Hi-Fi signal path. The included cartridge is matched with the built-in phono equalizer and is designed for a 2.0 g optimum stylus pressure.

Built-in switchable phono equalizer

The built-in phono equalizer makes the DP-500BT easier to match with different systems. If your amplifier or receiver has a dedicated phono input, the equalizer can be switched off. If your amplifier, powered speakers or compact system only has a normal line input, the equalizer can be switched on.

Bluetooth output with aptX support

For wireless listening, the DP-500BT supports Bluetooth transmission with SBC, aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive audio formats. This gives it a stronger wireless feature set than a basic Bluetooth turntable and makes it suitable for compatible Bluetooth speakers, soundbars or headphones.

How to connect it

The DP-500BT can be used in three main ways:

  • Into an amplifier with phono input — connect by RCA cable and set the built-in equalizer to off.
  • Into an amplifier or powered speaker with line input — connect by RCA cable and set the built-in equalizer to on.
  • To Bluetooth speakers or headphones — pair the turntable with a compatible Bluetooth playback device for wireless listening.

The correct equalizer setting matters. If it is set incorrectly, playback may be extremely low in volume or distorted. Soundlab can help set this correctly when matching the DP-500BT with your amplifier, powered speakers or wireless system.

Best suited for

  • Vinyl listeners wanting a proper Hi-Fi turntable with modern convenience.
  • Living room systems where wireless listening is useful.
  • Customers using powered speakers, Bluetooth speakers or Bluetooth headphones.
  • Amplifiers or compact systems without a built-in phono input.
  • Denon, Marantz, Audiolab, Arcam, Bowers & Wilkins and similar Hi-Fi systems.
  • Customers who want easy setup, but still want the option of a proper wired Hi-Fi connection.

System matching and setup notes

For the strongest sound quality, we would usually recommend using the DP-500BT with a wired connection into a suitable amplifier or powered speaker system. This gives the rest of the system the best opportunity to show what the turntable can do.

Bluetooth is still a very useful feature. It makes the DP-500BT easier to use in living rooms, bedrooms, apartments and casual listening spaces where a wired setup is not practical. The best choice depends on how you listen: wired for the strongest Hi-Fi result, Bluetooth for everyday flexibility.

Like all turntables, the DP-500BT benefits from careful placement. Use a stable, level surface and avoid placing the turntable too close to large speakers or subwoofers. A solid Hi-Fi rack, stable cabinet or suitable isolation platform can help the turntable perform at its best.

What to consider before buying

The DP-500BT is convenient, but it is still a proper turntable and needs correct setup. The platter, counterweight, headshell, dust cover and tracking force should be set up properly before regular use. Denon specifies 2.0 g as the appropriate stylus pressure for the included cartridge.

The built-in phono equalizer is for MM cartridges. If you later upgrade to an MC cartridge, Denon notes that the equalizer should be switched off and a suitable step-up transformer or head amplifier may be required.

The DP-500BT supports 78 RPM playback, but some 78 RPM records require a suitable stylus depending on record type and condition. If you plan to play older 78s, ask us before using the included stylus.

Bluetooth performance depends on the receiving speaker or headphones, codec support and the room environment. For the best Hi-Fi result, use a wired connection where possible.

Step-up or alternative options

The DP-500BT is a strong choice if you want Denon build quality, Bluetooth output, semi-automatic operation and easy system matching in one turntable. If you want a more upgrade-focused analogue path, Soundlab can also recommend suitable turntables from Pro-Ject, Rega or other specialist options depending on your amplifier, speakers and listening goals.

If you want the most convenient lifestyle vinyl system, the DP-500BT makes a lot of sense. If you want maximum cartridge, tonearm and external phono stage upgrade potential, a different turntable may be the better long-term match.
